Be a Light in Your Neighborhood!

For many people, Halloween is viewed as a dark night. You have an opportunity to be a “light” in your neighborhood by being a friendly, welcoming and visible presence on October 31. Choose one or two of the ideas below to create an experience your neighbors will never forget.
MOVIE ON THE LAWN
Borrow or rent a projector and show cartoons or a movie on the garage or the side of your house. Spread some blankets on the lawn and encourage kids and parents to take a break from the normal activity. Try The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown or Cartoon Network’s Scooby Doo.

DANCE PARTY
Load up your iPod with dance favorites and crank it up. Invite trick-or-treaters to stay a while and dance the night away. Include Chicken Dance, Macarena, Cupid Shuffle, Cha-Cha Slide, YMCA, Hokey Pokey, and more.

CANDY APPLE BAR
Fun and nostalgic treat for everyone. Prepare: crockpot of melted caramel, apples with skewers, bowls of toppings (sprinkles, m &m’s, mini-chocolate chips, coconut, etc). Provide disposable plates or bowls. Encourage guests to dip the apples in caramel and then select a topping. AVOID NUTS!

NACHOS/HOT DOGS
Parents and kids alike will appreciate a little real food on a night filled with sugar! Fire up the grill and throw on some dogs. Or cook up a crockpot of queso for quick and easy nachos.
HOT CHOCOLATE/APPLE CIDER
Nothing says “Fall” like hot cocoa or warm apple cider. Splurge for marshmallows and whip cream for the cocoa. Need a recipe for the cider? Check it out here  HINT: If the thermometer climbs above 85⁰, hand out water bottles with a variety of flavor mix-in choices instead!

GLOW-IN-THE-DARK STICKERS AND TATOOS
Leave your mark on your visitors. Offer them a glow-in-the-dark tattoo (or sticker). Order early at orientaltrading.com.

BUBBLES

Set up bubble machines to fill your yard with floating fun! Distribute small bottles of bubbles to everyone that stops by your house.

BALLOONS (BALLOON TWISTING AND HELIUM BALLOONS)
YOU can be the life of the party! In less than five minutes you can learn to twist simple balloon shapes like dogs or swords. Check it out on YouTube. Feel like you are all thumbs?

Purchase a disposable helium tank and hand out helium balloons instead.
